Cadet Adventure Day Saturday 31st August 2019. 11:00am - 3:00pm
SYC Club Adventure Days are designed to broaden our water based offerings to offer our cadets a bit of fun, excitement and adventure outside the normal racing environment.
“The Crystals of Rathan” Adventure day organised for Saturday August 31st encompasses a land and water based adventure utilising simple map reading, power boat driving and creative thought wrapped around the theft of mythical crystals from the cadet vaults of Solway Yacht Club by an evil crook, Rank Bajin.
The task set will be to recover the crystals which have been retaken from Rank Bajin by Special Agents commissioned by the club. The Special Agents are being pursued by Rank and are currently hiding in secret locations on Almorness Peninsula........
The Event is suitable for ages 9 upwards and there is no requirement to be able to sail.
We will try to accommodate as many cadets as we can but of course there must be a limit based upon the number of RIBs we can muster. Please get your youngsters' names down as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.
We will also need adult helpers to act as Special Agents and other characters as well as powerboat drivers so if you'd like to be involved get in touch as below.

The Club was established in 1904 and is situated in the village of Kippford, on the Colvend Coast in Dumfries and Galloway. An area of outstanding natural beauty, its traditional towns and villages, rugged cliffs, islands and inlets with secluded beaches are a delight. The area was much favoured by smugglers, and tales of their activities abound.
The Solway Yacht Club's situation on the Urr estuary provides for a variety of sailing from exciting dinghy racing in the shelter of the bay to offshore racing and cruising. It’s ideally situated for access to the Irish Sea and, from there, it’s but a short hop to the magnificent sailing area that’s the west coast of Scotland.
The Club has a strong Cadet Training Section with numbers of RYA Qualified Instructors, Senior Instructors and Coaches. There’s a good spread of young enthusiastic instructors through to a few who have years of experience behind them, along with less hair than their young peers. Every year, the club runs Cadet Week, tradition stretching back decades. The week sees some spirited racing, coaching for the improvers and a full programme of RYA courses for beginners. The social scene during the week is legendary, with Mudlarks and the dinner perhaps being the highlights. Cadet Week has produced many a fine sailor over the years including many top class national racers and not forgetting Jock Wishart, the famous explorer and adventurer.
Adults are not forgotten and Kippford Week racing has become an annual pilgrimage for many families, from all parts of the UK. Six days of racing cater for dinghies, keelboats and cruisers. Again the social side is very much part of the week and the village is jumping for the week. It’s a holiday area but, for that week, there’s no room in any hotel, B&B or guest house.
The Solway Yacht Club offers a cordial invitation to visiting sailors, however, Kippford is not really a suitable berthing area for fin keel cruisers due to drying moorings. Any boat that can take the ground will be able to moor in the Urr. There is limited space at the club’s pontoons but charges are very modest and the pubs in the village serve great food.
Most importantly, we are a friendly club. We welcome new members, visitors or just anyone who would like to pop in for a blether about boats, the Solway, the weather (always great in Kippford) or just the state of the world. Remember though that we're glass half full folk.
The committee has decided to offer free WiFi to all members at the Club House.
The WiFi key required to join the network can be found on the members' area of the website or can be obtained from a committee member on request. We hope you will find the useful for checking your e-mail, news and weather forecasts whilst waiting for the tide!
